Greater St. Louis Area

I have been an elementary teacher for the last 10 years. I received a bachelors in elementary education and masters degree in curriculum and instruction. I have always had a passion for STEM education, and have been the coordinator for our science and math enrichment program at both 5th and 6th grade. I have three crazy little boys and husband who have inspired and supported my love of technology!

Recently I became the elementary computer science teacher for our whole district. This program is fairly unique for our area, so I've had to do a lot of research in order to produce a program that my students enjoy and that is truly helping them build computer science fundamental skills. Through my research, and implementation in my own classroom, I've found some fantastic resources that help both my students as well as my own children get excited about computer science concepts.

Sarah's Sessions

  • Teaching Kids Programming

In this session, attendees will learn about tools that teach computer science fundamentals in ways that are accessible to children as young as 2. I will demonstrate hands-on, offline toys such as Code-a-Pillar, Code Mouse, and Ozobot, and I'll also go through online resources such as, Code Combat, Khan Academy, and many others. I will share may experiences of teaching kids programming both in my own elementary computer science classes as well as with my own children.
